HEALTH SERVICES
GROWING, PLAYING,
laughing, learning. When
you think of these words, it’s not hard to relate them to
kids. Of course not all children experience these activities
in exactly the same way. And while this individuality is a
normal part of growing up, recognizing and addressing
delays or dif culties and getting help is crucial for healthy
development, as well as helping create a family life that
works for everyone.
That is where Faith Regional’s newly expanded outpa-
tient pediatric therapy area, TheraPlay, comes in. TheraPlay
provides children and their families with a playful, kid-
friendly environment for receiving physical, occupational
and speech therapy from experts speci cally trained to treat
kids with developmental, physical, functional or communi-
cative issues.
TheraPlay’s welcoming, safe and healing environment
includes a spacious therapy gym with state-of-the-art
equipment and toys that range from swings and a rock wall
to soft-surface balls and other objects of all shapes, sizes
and colors. Therapists use these tools in creative and fun
ways that help facilitate movement and development of
ne motor and daily living skills and improve balance and
coordination.
We make it personal
Individual therapy rooms allow therapists to assess, evalu-
ate, and provide personalized therapy and attention speci c
to each child’s needs, such as trouble with speech or eating
or aversions to textures. They also treat children who have
a developmental disability such as cerebral palsy, spina
bi da, autism, sensory processing disorders or Down
syndrome.
“We are very excited to offer a dedicated and compre-
hensive team of outpatient therapists who work in a unique
space with all the specialized equipment they need right
here in Norfolk,” says Sheri Sheriff, PT, Faith Regional
Outpatient Therapy manager. “Oftentimes, therapy is
needed multiple times a week, and now families do not
have to travel far to receive excellent care for their child.”
It is important to understand that TheraPlay outpatient
therapy is different than school-based therapy; however, a
child can receive and bene t from therapy in both settings.
“Our licensed therapists take a holistic approach to care
using an interdisciplinary team, encouraging family in-
volvement,” says Sheriff. “We believe in the importance of
communicating with parents, physicians and school thera-
pists to help kids reach their highest potential.”
