Breastfeeding

Suppor t

“I like the Breastfeeding

Support Facebook group

because I can share my

concerns anytime of day. This

is a huge advantage as a new,

rst-time mother. Also, reading

other mothers’ questions and

concerns are helpful as well.”

Meet Joan Mozer

Joan Mozer, RN, IBCLC, Faith Regional Health

Services lactation consultant, has worked

at Faith Regional for 29 years. She worked

in obstetrics as a staff nurse before seeking

her breastfeeding educator status. In 2002,

she passed the International Board Certi ed

Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) exam.

when attempting to nurse and was

constantly uncomfortable. Stech

knew that something was not right,

so she reached out to Faith Regional’s

Breastfeeding Support Group and

shared her concerns with Faith

Regional’s Lactation Consultant Joan

Mozer, RN, IBCLC, and other mothers.

“I didn’t know if it

was the way that I was

nursing him or what

was going on,” Stech

says. “Another mother

that was attending said she

had a similar experience

and that eliminating dairy

and soy from my diet may

help.” Mozer agreed and gave

Stech a cookbook speci c to

her needs.

After adjusting her diet, Stech

found out that her son has milk

protein and soy protein intolerance.

“My rst child did not have

this issue, and I could eat

whatever I wanted,” Stech

says. “I was sad to lose those

things in my diet, but I knew

I wanted to continue breast-

feeding.” As a determined

mother, Stech has continued

her dairy- and soy-free diet

and has been successfully

breastfeeding for over 6½

months.

“Breastfeeding can be chal-

lenging,” Mozer says. “Prenatal

education and determination

and support are what help

make it successful.”

“The Breastfeeding Support Group

really helped me. It was nice to

be around other women pushing

through and having some of

the same issues. Someone

always had great advice or

even just encouraging words.

It was great to have support

from women at all stages of

breastfeeding.”

“I attended Faith Regional’s

breastfeeding class and set up a

private, outpatient appointment with

Faith Regional’s lactation consultant,

Joan Mozer. Without her constant

support and the class, I would have

eventually given up.”
