THIS IS
my rst article in
Living Well
as the new president and CEO at Faith
Regional Health Services. My fam-
ily and I are very pleased to be living
closer to our families in Minnesota
and Iowa. I am especially proud to be
associated with our excellent team of
board members, physicians, nurses,
technicians and other health care
professionals—the backbone of this
organization that has delivered out-
standing medical care for over 90 years
in northeast Nebraska. And I’m excited
and thoughtful about how we will lead
Faith Regional through the next phases
of health care reform while continu-
ing with our vision of becoming the
premier referral center in the region,
providing more specialized services
closer to our patients and in coopera-
tion with other providers.
One of the ways Faith Regional
will accomplish this is through
growth and expansion. In August,
Faith Regional began Phase 1 of a
ve-phase expansion project of our
pre- and postoperative surgery areas.
One reason for the expansion was to
improve patient safety and outcomes
by re ning the physical space and en-
vironmental equipment. Patient safety
is a key goal at Faith Regional and for
all hospitals.
During Phase 1, we will create a
new bypass corridor, install a state-of-
the-art air handling system speci -
cally designed for the surgical suites,
and build 10 pre- and postoperative
private rooms. Patient space will
increase from 1,700 to 4,500 square
feet.
Before any of that happens, the
Advanced Wound Center, pre-anesthesia
testing and the Lab Draw Center
will move near the main entrance of
the hospital. Providing easier, more
convenient access to these services
was an important bene t to patients
that we rec-
ognized could
be achieved
through the
move. The new
Pain Center has
already been
completed.
Growth is not
limited to the
Wound Center and surgery depart-
ments. Having advanced technology
continues to be at the forefront of our
ability to provide cutting-edge ser-
vices. Faith Regional is in the process
of acquiring a new 1.5 Tesla magnetic
resonance imaging (MRI) system.
The new system will be more com-
fortable for patients and will reduce
claustrophobia. In addition, with the
advanced coil technology and soft-
ware programs, Faith Regional will
now be able to add several new areas
of imaging, including breast MRI and
advanced cardiac imaging.
We’re committed to patient com-
fort in other areas too. The patient
waiting area that is used by cardiac
services, the cath lab and MRI will be
expanded to provide private changing
rooms and a restroom to enhance the
patient experience.
These changes, and others to come,
could be compared to a head-to-
toe makeover. Every decision, every
project and every dollar spent is part
of our strategic plan to provide you,
our patients, with exemplary medical
services. This is our vision, and I look
forward to being a part of it all.
