SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST is the leading cause of death in the United States. The sooner CPR can be started, the higher the chances are that the person will survive. Fifty-seven percent of adults in the U.S. say they have undergone CPR training, yet only a third of sudden cardiac arrest victims receive bystander CPR. PulsePoint Respond PulsePoint, coming to Norfolk in 2018, is a mobile app that alerts CPR-trained citizens that someone in a public space nearby is having a sudden cardiac arrest. Here’s how it works: 1. John has a sudden cardiac arrest while dining with his family at a local restaurant. 2. 911 is called. Emergency responders are on their way. 3. Dispatchers also send a PulsePoint alert to those within walking distance who have the app. Whose life will you save today? Get the apps. Save a life! Download the PulsePoint apps at pulsepoint.org . Because of bystander CPR, John’s chance of survival doubles or triples. PulsePoint AED Another integral part of PulsePoint is PulsePoint AED. This app enables you to report and update AED locations so emergency responders and CPR-trained citizens can locate the nearest AED when an emergency occurs. It’s simple. Down- load the PulsePoint AED app. When you find an AED, describe the location and snap a photo. The information is then stored for local authorities to verify. The AED location is then available to anyone using PulsePoint Respond. The locations are also available to local dispatchers, allowing them to direct callers to the nearest AEDs.
