Targeting
tumors
GREATER PRECISION
in targeting the tumor equals fewer treatments.
That’s the goal behind stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), now offered at
Faith Regional’s Carson Cancer Center.
We recently installed the CVICO Medical Solutions’ Protura
TM
Robotic Patient
Positioning System and Universal Couchtop at the center. Now staff can shift
patients as little as a half-millimeter, delivering high doses of radiation to the
tumor and sparing the surrounding healthy tissue.
Because SBRT enables delivery of such a high dose of radiation directly to the
tumor, it can reduce the number of radiation treatments. For example, a patient
who would have needed 20 to 25 radiation treatments before can now receive
the same amount of radiation in as little as five treatments.
Currently, Faith Regional is using SBRT to treat lung cancer but will be ex-
panding to using this type of therapy to treat other cancers in the future.

Should you
be screened
for lung
cancer?
Are you between the ages
of 55 and 78 years old?
YES
Talk to your doctor to
find out if lung cancer
screening is right for
you, or call Faith
Regional’s Lung Cancer
Screening Clinic at

up a consultation.
Are you a current
smoker
or have you quit
within the

YES
How many years did you or

How many packs a day did
you or do you smoke?
Multiply these two numbers
(For example: 15 years x
2 packs a day = 30)
Total:
Is the answer 30 or greater?
YES
Screenings save lives!
Lung cancer kills more men
and women in the U.S. than
any other type of cancer. By
the time it causes symptoms,
the cancer has often spread
outside the lungs, making it
difficult to treat. Faith Regional
offers lung cancer screening to
those who are at greater risk of
developing the disease due to
age and smoking history. For
those who qualify, annual low-
dose computed tomography
scans are used to detect lung
cancer early, when the disease
is in its most treatable stage.
